My transition began in January, although I did not officially separate until May. Immediately upon learning of this decision, I began to NETWORK extensively. Concurrent to that notice period, I also “set up shop” as an independent HR process improvement specialist/consultant.
The networking campaign was targeted not only to my professional circle, but to family, friends, former business partners and colleagues, in my Church community, and with a great group of collaborators from my work with the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce. I was blessed with many leads, some of which generated phone calls, and others, ultimately generated direct client engagements.
Today, I provide Talent Acquisition expertise to a privately held company in Tamarac, in addition to my role as Vice President, Human Resources Practice with The Doug Williams Group. To this end, a special thanks goes out to Cindy Oliver at Terremark and Susan Hawkins at Sun Capital.
In comparison to HR colleagues who are (or have been) in transition, I count myself fortunate that my “dessert period” was short-lived. I owe this to the generous spirit of these same individuals who took the time to connect with me along the way.
Thanks for the opportunity to contribute and share my story.
