Jose Tomas, SPHR - Bio
Our October 16 meeting speaker Jose Tomas is president, Latin America and Caribbean (LAC), and global chief people officer for Burger King Corporation (BKC). As president of LAC, Mr. Tomas is responsible for operations, marketing, development, purchasing, supply and distribution for the LAC region. As the chief people officer for the Burger King Corporation, he leads the global human resources team and is responsible for all of BKC’s global internal and external communications and corporate public relations. Mr. Tomas reports directly to CEO Bernardo Hees and serves as a key member of the executive leadership team.
Prior to this role, Mr. Tomas was VP of human resources for BKC where he led the HR team supporting the company’s North America business unit, as well as the global operations strategic unit headquartered in Miami. In addition, he oversaw security and asset protection for BKC’s company-owned restaurants in the US and Canada. Previously, Mr. Tomas led the HR teams for the company’s global restaurant support center in Miami and the LAC region.
Prior to joining BKC in 2004, Mr. Tomas held various field and corporate HR positions with Ryder System Inc., including director of talent acquisition and director of corporate HR. He began his human resources career as an HR specialist with Publix Super Markets after transitioning from operations.
Mr. Tomas serves on the boards of several not-for-profit organizations, including as a Director of the Society for Human Resource Management and as Chair of the Posse Miami Advisory Board. He holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a master’s of science in management from Florida International University, and is SPHR certified by the Human Resources Certification Institute.
