100+ Attendees at GMSHRM 2011 Diversity & Inclusion Award Dinner Meeting

Recent GMSHRM 2011 D & I Awards Dinner Meeting attracted over 100 people and a few walk-ins who had to be turned away

GMSHRM’s recent 2011 Diversity & Inclusion Awards Dinner Meeting had over 100 attendees and a few walk-ins who had to be turned away.   Attendees included HR Florida State Council President Heather Vogel, who honored the chapter with her visit, and members from the guest association, the Business Leadership Network.

The afternoon started with an Accounting & Finance Workshop (free to GMSHRM members), followed by Networking and light jazz music provided by the Jazz Studio Ensemble from Miami Dade College.  That evening, the Awards were presented as follows: 2011 GMSHRM Diversity & Inclusion Award -University of Miami; Inaugural GMSHRM Diversity & Inclusion Pioneer Award –Carol Susan DeVaney (former HR Florida State Council Director of Diversity 2008 and 2009).  

At the event, the University of Miami announced that it will be giving GMSHRM two $1,000 scholarships, towards an HR certificate program at UM.  (The details of this generous gesture, including how interested GMSHRM members can apply for consideration, will be revealed in the upcoming weeks.)

The Dinner Program featured speakers Iliana Castillo-Frick (Vice Provost of HR, Miami Dade College) and Sue Romanos (Founder/CEO, CareerXchange and ANSERTEAM.  Marvin Dejean (Director of Business Development & Government Relations, United Data Technologies) also addressed the audience, sharing information on United Data’s Mentor-Protégé program.
