2011 GMSHRM Diversity & Inclusion Awards

The Winner of the 2011 GMSHRM Diversity & Inclusion Award is the University of Miami. Join us on Sept. 20 for this Dinner Meeting at Hotel Sofitel and honor UM and their inclusion initiatives.

The GMSHRM Diversity and Inclusion Awards is an annual event that recognizes organizations and individuals for best practices in diversity and inclusion.  The winner(s) of the Award(s) are selected from nominee submissions made to the Diversity and Inclusion Committee of the Greater Miami chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management (GMSHRM) prior to the awards ceremony.  Award Winners are leaders in South Florida who promote excellence in their workplaces by fostering an inclusive work environment that welcomes and encourages employees of different perspectives, backgrounds and life experiences.

The University of Miami will be recognized at GMSHRM’s 2011 Diversity & Inclusion Awards Dinner Meeting on September 20, 2011 at the Hotel Sofitel on 5800 Blue Lagoon Drive.  The University of Miami exemplifies not only best practices but innovative and unique practices for promoting diversity and inclusion in the workplace, such as:

Automatically identify for hiring authorities those positions in which women and minorities are under-represented, which encourages those hiring authorities to engage in special recruitment efforts to increase diversity in the workplace.

Engagement in special recruitment efforts to attract veterans, including those with disabilities

Established the Scientists and Engineers Expanding Diversity and Success (SEEDS) program to orchestrate grass-roots efforts to study and improve climate and policies for programs designed to increase opportunities for all scientists and engineers at UM.

Undertaking substantial community programs to assist the underprivileged in the community.

The University will share its Diversity & Iinitiatives along with program speakers Iliana Castillo-Frick (Vice Provost of HR at Miami Dade College) and Sue Romanos (Founder/Executive Officer at CAREERXCHANGE).  Our guest association for this event will be BLN (Business Leadership Network).  HR Florida State Council President Heather Vogel will visit GMSHRM for this Event.  We will reflect on how the United States of America can come together as one nation in the face of tragedy or triumph, and hear live jazz music provided by the excellent Jazz Studio Ensemble from Miami Dade College.

Previous winners of GMSHRM’s Diversity & Inclusion Awards include: Marriott Global Reservations Sales, Early Learning Coalition of Miami-Dade/Monroe, Burger King Corporation, Miami Dade College, PBS&J, Jet Stream Federal Credit Union, VITAS, Miami-Dade County, Akerman Senterfitt and Ryder Systems.
