GMSHRM Board to modify Chapter By-Laws

In order to widen the candidate pool when considering individuals for voting positions on the Board, the GMSHRM Board is looking to modify Section 6.7, a section that was part of the changes made to the GMSHRM By-Laws in 2010.

Currently, the section reads:

Section 6.7: Maximum number of years as voting member of the Board
a.  The maximum number of consecutive years an individual can be a voting member of the Board  is six (6) years; exception: someone who was the incoming President-elect at the beginning of his/her consecutive year sixth year as a voting member of the Board shall be allowed to serve a total of eight (8) consecutive years.
b.  The maximum number of years an individual can be a voting member of the Board is a total of eight (8) years.

In order to open up the candidate pool when seeking voting members of the Board, the 2011 Board is seeking to modify Section 6.7 to read as follows:

Section 6.7: Maximum number of consecutive years as voting member of the Board
a. The maximum number of consecutive years an individual can be a voting member of the Board is six (6) years; exception: someone who was the incoming President-elect at the beginning of his/her sixth consecutive year as a voting member of the Board shall be allowed to serve a total of eight (8) consecutive years.

This change has been approved by the GMSHRM Board and by SHRM.  It will be presented to the general membership for voting at the June 21 Dinner Meeting.
