The group will focus on topics of interest to senior level hr executives. The GMSHRM HR Executive Forum follows SHRM's strategic initiative to enage senior HR executives, business and/or organization leaders into the local chapter's and national initiatives.

Debbie Slappey, Mercer Senior Partner
Debbie Slappey is a Mercer Senior Partner and serves as the Innovation Leader for the global Workforce Communication and Change business. She is based in Atlanta. She specializes in helping clients formulate and implement communication strategies to drive employee engagement from hire to retirement. Debbie is also the product developer for Mercer’s Belong model – a best practices approach to harnessing the power of online delivery to improve employee service and engagement. The model is based on best practice experience with dozens of corporate intranet sites and brings in the new dimensions of Web 2.0. It addresses the specific issues that drive effective communication strategy – personalization, interactivity, community, speed – across all components of the employment relationship. She joined Mercer in 1995 in New York. Before joining Mercer, Debbie was a corporate communicator and communication consultant with another major HR consulting firm. Debbie has a BA in journalism and public relations from the University of Georgia.
Mitch Barnes, Principal Mercer Human Capital
Mitch Barnes is a Principal in Mercer’s Human Capital practice and works in the Atlanta office. He is responsible for assisting clients with employee pay strategy, variable pay plan design, and comprehensive rewards systems, primarily for the broad employee population. Mitch works across multiple industry segments including distribution, energy, financial services, manufacturing, marketing, professional services, telecommunications, transportation, and retail. His clients include global companies with operations around the world and US organizations as well. For the last ten years, Mitch has worked in a consulting capacity with some of the world’s largest organizations across several industries while also working very closely with many small and mid-sized clients. Prior to joining Mercer, Mitch worked for one of the largest financial services firms in the US, and one of the firm’s predecessors. He served in a variety of human resources roles to include Director of Compensation at both organizations for a total of 18 years. Mitch received his bachelor of science degree in Business from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and his Master of Business Administration in finance and operations from the Babcock School of Management at Wake Forest University. He is a Certified Compensation Professional with WorldatWork.
