SHRM Knowlege Center - Update CHIPRA

SHRM’s HR Knowledge Center has compiled a wide range of resources to assist HR professionals in complying with The Children’s Health Insurance Program Reauthorization Act of 2009 (CHIPRA).

The Children’s Health Insurance Program Reauthorization Act of 2009 (CHIPRA) requires employers offering group health plans to notify employees of their potential rights to receive premium assistance under a state's Medicaid or CHIP program. The requirement applies to employers with employees that reside in any of 40 states that provide premium assistance.

To assist you in complying with this upcoming notice requirement, SHRM’s HR Knowledge Center has compiled the following resources: articles that explain the new notice requirement, links to the DOL’s model notice and federal register posting, and a list of the 40 states that provide the type of premium assistance that triggers the notice requirement.

These resources are available only to SHRM members through our Express Request service. To receive these resources, please visit SHRM's Hot Topics Express Request service and select key term CHIPRA PREM. ASSISTANCE MODEL NOTICE (under the BENEFITS heading). Note: Once on the Express Request page, you may select up to five topics and click submit once.

The Express Request (ER) feature is a self-service, online benefit that allows SHRM members to request and receive information on a wide variety of HR topics via e-mail. Responses are sent immediately and are available around-the-clock.
