As veterans return from service, there is an increasing responsibility on HR Professionals to manage their transition into the workplace. This workshop will provide insight from the Veterans Administration (VA) and the Guard and Reserve Employer Support (ESGR) as they highlight a wide spectrum of veterans issues. Many employers are unaware that they must provide a returning veteran with the same or equivalent position under USERRA.
This GMSHRM Diversity Inclusion workshop covers a wide spectrum of veterans' topics as they re-enter the workplace. Representatives from the Veterans Administration (VA) and the Guard and Reserve Employer Support (ESGR) will cover:
- The Business Imperative for Hiring Veterans;
- Benefits of Hiring a Veteran including Federal Programs and Tax Benefits;
- General and Employment Readjustment Challenges;
- Reasonable Accommodation tips;
- Employer Responsibilities under USERRA,(The Uniformed Services Employment & Reemployment Rights Act), and
- Available Training Programs and Facilities.
In addition, representatives from Miami Dade College's MEED Academy will discuss how the Academy Program helps individuals with disabilities to prepare for/obtain employment and how MEED can help employers as well. Schedule interviews with MEED participants by contacting Lucy Moscoso, MEED Outreach Coordinator, via e-mail at: lmoscoso@mdcc.edu or by phone at 305-237-3670. Pre-scheduled meetings post-workshop are encouraged!
