SHRM Government Affairs - UPDATE

GMSHRM Members - Please complete the HR Advocacy Questionnaire ASAP. Your feedback will help SHRM's Government Affairs better prepare for the upcoming policy debates. Let our voices be heard!

The questionnaire is available on line at: http://capwiz.com/legal-workforce/mlm/signup/?ignore_cookie=1 with a new deadline of February 28, 2009. Here is some additional information as provided by Recardo Gibson, SHRM Member Advocacy Specialist:

As you know, change has come to Washington. Last month, the new 111th Congress convened and on January 20, President Barack Obama was sworn into office as the 44th President of the United States.

The first piece of legislation to make it through the Congress and to be signed into law by President Obama was a labor law reform bill – the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act http://www.shrm.org/Advocacy/GovernmentAffairsNews/HRIssuesUpdatee-Newsletter/Pages/020609_1.aspx.

SHRM believes this is only the beginning, as legislation addressing such important HR issues as workplace flexibility, employment verification, the Employee Free Choice Act, and health care reform are certain to be vetted soon, in both the Congress and the White House.

To help us prepare for these upcoming policy debates, SHRM’s Government Affairs team has developed the HR Advocacy Questionnaire. We hope you will take time today to complete this brief questionnaire. We estimate it should take no more than 5 minutes of your time. You can access the questionnaire by clicking HERE.

In completing this questionnaire, members can express their level of interest in supporting SHRM’s legislative advocacy efforts. In addition, members can identify the HR issues they are most interested in and register their level of interest in testifying before a legislative panel or talking to the media as an expert in a particular area of HR practice. Most importantly, they can identify a state legislator or member of Congress they may know personally or whose campaign they may have supported in the past as a volunteer.

This information will help SHRM focus its advocacy efforts when targeted outreach to certain legislators is required. Please take a minute today to complete this questionnaire. Your active support of SHRM’s advocacy efforts will help us better focus our efforts in the legislative fights ahead.

We appreciate your assistance in asking your chapter members to help SHRM prepare for these upcoming policy debates.
Thank you for your assistance!
