GMSHRM 2010 Workforce Readiness Programs

Workforce Development
New Entrants to the workforce

GMSHRM Workforce Readiness Committee partnered with the Homestead Job Corp Center in Homestead to assist graduating students successfully transition into today’s challenging workforce. The first half-day training program was entitled “Jump Start Your Career” and concentrated on interviewing skills and resume techniques. Our members showed the 23 participants how to prepare for the commonly used behavioral interviewing approach as well as successful techniques to create an effective resume.

"Homestead Job Corps Center students have defied many odds to continue their education. The participation of local human resources professional will certainly give them a sense of what recruiters are looking for and reaffirm what our career services programs have taught them," explained Lesly Diaz, Business & Community Liaison for the Center.

Career Development
GMSHRM Members Benefits

MasteryWorks
GMSHRM recognized that within our roles as Human Resources professionals, we provide our managers and employees with the tools, resources, and coaching they need to take charge of their own careers. However, we often do not take the time to focus on our own careers. To that end, GMSHRM has partnered with MasteryWorks, a career development solutions provider, to develop an online career management tool for our members and to benefit our members. MasteryWorks is a self-paced, on-line resource designed to help our members build and manage their career and professional development by providing an individualized strategic road map and a wealth of tools and resources to design, enhance, and build a fulfilling HR career. MasteryWorks allows our members – at no cost - to enhance their Human Resource careers, as well as to find a way to increase their effectiveness as an HR professional for themselves and their organization.

Coffee Break Series
With the economic challenges, downsizing, and companies closing, GMSHRM saw many of its members with no employment. Many of the new members joined GMSHRM as another network opportunity and educational tool in their job search.
GMSHRM, as always, is committed to serving the human resource profession and assisting our members in professional challenges. The 2009 Workforce Readiness Committee developed a program called the “Coffee Break Series” limited to HR Professionals in Transition. The premise of the  “Coffee Break Series”  is an opportunity for HR Professionals in transition to come together to attend roundtable discussions for networking purposes, attend workshops, and gain valuable job search information and tools to assist them.

Career Center
GMSHRM has also partnered with the job search engine INDEED.COM - an excellent resource to advertise job openings as well as for job seekers to find job listings fast.  Indeed.com enables our members to search millions of job listings from thousands of web sites, job boards, newspapers, blogs, company career pages, and associations to find job listings that match or are similar to search query. Post your jobs or find a new one by visiting our Career Center.
