Through our networking socials held throughout the year, GMSHRM raises funds to donate to organizations such as Dress for Success, Camillus House, Shake-A-Leg, and many others.  At our annual Holiday Party, we also collect gifts to provide to disadvantaged children through agencies such as Amigos for Kids and Charlee House.   

Through our community involvement, GMSHRM also seek to bring to our members' attention not-for-profit organizations and agencies that offer services or opportunities that are relevant to the HR professional.   

GMSHRM PAILS 4 HAITI

PAILS 4 HAITI

With the view that self-employment initiatives are an effective tool for reconstruction and development, PAILS for Haiti provides men and women internally displaced in Haiti, and in need of sustainable livelihoods, with a compact medium by which to employ their skills, become self-sufficient, and thereby less reliant on humanitarian assistance and better able to reintegrate into society.

The design of the project is to create 9 separate “pails” specifically designed to meet the needs of 8 different employment categories. Filled with the pertinent tools, materials, and equipment to carry out each work function, such as construction, carpentry, seamstress, etc., pails will be distributed to internally displaced persons so that they can begin finding work and making a new life for themselves and their families.   

Individuals and/or companies are encourage to support the initiative by buying one or more of the 9 trade-specific PAILS and thus help someone in Haiti start its own business.

GMSHRM Year-Long Campaign to Help Rebuilding of Haiti

In response to the devastation of our neighboring island, GMSHRM has chosen to engage in a year-long campaign to assist in the rebuilding of Haiti.

In partnership with Americas Response Team (ART) and Harvest International (recipient with orphanages in Haiti), Soles 4 Haiti will collect and sent flip flops to Haiti and thus aid in the rebuilding process.  Kick off of Soles 4 Haiti will be at our April meeting - so spread the word, bring your donations, or get your organization involved to help today. 

We are also partnering with the International Rescue Committee to help displaced Haitians that come to Miami better incorporate into the workplace. We encourage all Creole-speaking practitioners to contact our Community Relations Director, David Nunes (communityrelations@gmshrm.org) for more information on how to get involved."
