Meet our Diversity in Action Award event speaker, Vida Byas Sanchez, M.A.

About our Speaker -Vida Byas Sanchez.
Born and raised in the Dominican Republic until coming to the U.S. in 1969. Ms. Byas Sanchez earned her B.S. from Georgetown University in Language & Linguistics and a Master's Degree from American University in Cultural Studies.  She worked in the Alexandria City Public Schools for 26 years, served as president of the Education Association of Alexandria. and was a Virginia Education Association and National Education Association Leader.  Following her retirement, Ms. Byas Sanchez worked in community health care services for 4 years.  She currently resides in the DC Metro area with her family and has lived with Retinal Cone Rod Dystrophy for 18 years.

Ms. Byas Sanchez will present "The Benefits of Hiring Disabled Workers" and address the following takeaways: 

  • Identify who is the disabled worker
  • Why hire the disabled worker
  • What are their strengths in the workplace environment
  • What are the perceived liabilities and how to overcome them
  • Implications of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
  • Implications of the Affordable Care Act (ACA)
